This was great, William! Yeah, it's a film of its time--large on style, low on substance. Worth seeing for the sexy chess scene, which is iconic, and for Theodora Van Runkle's outrageous wardrobe for Faye Dunaway, also iconic! I generally hate remakes of anything, but if you haven't caught the remake of Thomas Crown Affair, with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, I highly recommend it! It's a really fun lark of a film and far better!

Thanks Jamie. I love the chess scene too. The cutting back and forth between McQueen and Dunaway’s POV shots shows them watching each other and McQueen weakening until he breaks down and kisses her. Does the remake’s plot make more sense than the originals?

That's one of the things they get right--the story! It's a genuine cat and mouse story and the chemistry between the two leads is terrific. Denis Leary provides a foil to Rene Russo in a great supporting performance.

Thanks. You're right about. Dunaway's wardrobe. It's stunning. I want to find a movie where she's got a bigger and more interesting role. In Thomas Crown she's just out for money and ultimately loses and in Bonnie and Clyde she's a hillbilly gangster whose boyfriend won't make love to her and she ends up shot. She was darkly and coldly alluring in Chinatown but she still isn't the biggest personality in the cast and she still ends up dead in the end.

Watch NETWORK next. It's her Oscar winning performance and features Oscar winner Peter Finch as well. From the same period, I adore her in THE THREE MUSKETEERS and its sequel, playing Milady to wickedly wonderful effect.
