Francois Truffaut ended his classic film The 400 Blows with one of the most ambiguous shots in film history. Antoine Doinel has escaped juvie. The boy has fled across the countryside. He runs onto the beach and towards the sea. He’s always wanted to see the sea. He turns around to face the camera, the camera freezes, zooms in on his face, and then…FIN.
